Our “Kumquats” in a larger scale makes the expressionistic citrus especially bold and fun. The overlapping pattern with its pointy edges was loosely based on Lois Mailou Jones’ early tropical textiles from the 1930s. We had a small, miraculous kumquat tree in the Block Shop parking lot which inspired us to find beauty in the mundane, and we launched a series of patterns and prints in homage.
